Alan Greenspan

Chairman of the Federal Reserve System, USA, 1987-2006

Alan Greenspan served as chairman of the board of governors of the Federal Reserve for over 18 years. Dr Greenspan also served as chairman of the FOMC, the system’s principal monetary policymaking body.

Greenspan was appointed a member of President Ronald Reagan’s Economic Policy Advisory Board, the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board, the Commission on Financial Structure and Regulation, the Commission on an All-Volunteer Armed Forces and the Task Force on Economic Growth.

Before his tenure with the Fed, Greenspan served as a director of numerous corporations, including JP Morgan, Mobil, ALCOA, General Foods and Capital Cities/ABC.

He received a BS (summa cum laude), MA and PhD in economics all from New York University. Dr. Greenspan also has performed advanced graduate studies at Columbia University.

Greenspan currently heads Greenspan Associates, a consulting firm in Washington, DC, and is the author of “The Age of Turbulence”.
