Evgeny Primakov is the chairman of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He has a wealth of experience in the public sector: before being anointed head of the chamber, Primakov was foreign affairs minister, prime minister and headed the Fatherland–All Russia faction in the Duma. He also headed the KGB’s Foreign Intelligence Service and its immediate successor following the collapse of the Soviet Union, and was being considered for membership in the Communist Party’s Politbureau before the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
Primakov holds a degree in Middle Eastern studies from the Moscow State Institute of Oriental Studies and has a PhD in economics. He has been a member of the Russian (Soviet) Academy of Sciences since 1979.[an error occurred while processing the directive]
